We recently reviewed the current reward system for voting on the server, with the goal of finding a more balanced and fair way to incentivize players to participate. The current system awards a small amount of in-game currency and experience points to the player who voted, which while well-intentioned, has become somewhat less effective as the server has grown. The main issue is that the reward is relatively small, and the opportunity cost of participating (i.e. missing out on other activities) is often significant.
We decided to scale up the reward for voting, increasing the amount of currency and experience points awarded to a more substantial amount. This should provide a more noticeable incentive for players to participate, while still being mindful of the overall impact on the server's economy. The new reward structure is as follows: 100 gold, 500 experience points, and a bonus chance to obtain a rare item from the crate.
One of the main reasons for the previous system's ineffectiveness was that it was too easy for players to vote multiple times in a row. To address this, we've implemented a 24 hour cooldown period for voting, meaning that a player cannot vote again within a 24 hour period. This should prevent abuse of the system and help maintain a more level playing field.
The new system was implemented on January 15th and has been running smoothly for the past week. Feedback has been positive, with many players expressing appreciation for the increased reward and appreciation for the efforts made to address the issues.
