We often get questions from our community about how we manage backups of the world files for Rizzaster. Backups are crucial for ensuring that the game stays safe and enjoyable for everyone, and for restoring any issues that may arise. Here are some frequently asked questions and their answers.
Why do we have backups of the world files?
Backups are essential for maintaining the integrity and safety of the game environment. They allow us to restore the game state to a previous point in time if something goes wrong, such as a data corruption, a security breach, or a critical bug that needs to be fixed urgently. This helps in minimizing downtime and ensuring that the game remains stable for our players.
How do you perform backups, and how often are they done?
Backups are performed manually by the moderators every weekend. The process involves stopping the game server, backing up the entire directory containing the world files, and then restarting the server. We aim to do this every Saturday evening to ensure that the most recent data is backed up. In addition, we keep a secondary copy of the backup on an external drive to provide an additional layer of protection against data loss.
How long do you keep the backups, and what happens to them?
We keep the most recent backup for one week, then delete it, and retain the second most recent backup for another week. After that, they are deleted. This helps in keeping the backup storage minimal while still providing a recent point of recovery. We also use a more advanced backup system for archiving older data, which is stored separately but still accessible if needed.
Can players contribute to backups or have a say in how backups are done?
