We had an incident last month where a user posted a screenshot of a private conversation with one of the moderators, allegedly using it to try and make a threat. The user claimed they had been joking and didn't mean to cause any harm, but the moderator in question felt uncomfortable and asked the user to leave the server.
The incident led to a review of our server rules, particularly the section about respecting other users' boundaries and confidentiality. We decided to add a new rule stating that posting screenshots of private conversations is not allowed, with exceptions for direct quotes or paraphrasing the conversation's content with explicit permission from the involved parties. The new rule aims to prevent similar incidents and promote a culture of respect within the server.
We also took this opportunity to remind users about the importance of reporting any suspicious behavior or harassment to a moderator, rather than trying to handle the situation themselves. This helps us address issues more efficiently and ensures that everyone feels safe and supported within the server. The new rule about reporting suspicious behavior is now prominently displayed in our server's welcome message and is also mentioned in the "Important Rules" section of the server's info channel.
