We chose to implement real-time keyword filtering with a curated, non-exhaustive list of sensitive terms instead of relying solely on automated systems or manual review. This balance allows us to block explicit language, harmful slurs, and known inappropriate phrases without overblocking innocent words that might be used in casual conversation. The filter is updated monthly based on feedback from moderators and observations from daily gameplay.
Moderators are trained to review flagged messages and user reports within 15 minutes of detection. If a message slips through the filter, the report system ensures it is reviewed promptly. This hybrid approach reduces the risk of harmful content appearing while maintaining a responsive system that can adapt to new slang or evolving language patterns used by younger players.
All chat messages are logged for 7 days and stored securely. These logs are accessible only to lead moderators and are used solely for reviewing incidents, improving filters, and providing evidence if a user reports a concern. No logs are shared outside the moderation team, and access is restricted by role-based permissions.
We do not allow direct private messaging between users. All communication happens in public chat channels or through a moderated in-game ticket system. This prevents grooming and unauthorized private exchanges while still allowing players to connect safely during gameplay. Parents are encouraged to discuss these rules with their children and review the server's community guidelines together.
Our safety design prioritizes prevention over reaction. By filtering harmful content at the point of entry and maintaining active moderation, we aim to create a space where kids feel safe to express themselves without exposure to harmful or inappropriate content. This approach has proven effective in reducing incidents while allowing natural social interaction to thrive.
