On May 18, the survival world map was reset as scheduled, but several players reported that their progress was lost unexpectedly. A few players had completed minor base builds and collected resources just before the reset. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the reset script was triggered two hours earlier than planned due to a misconfigured cron job. The script was set to run at 2:00 AM instead of 4:00 AM, which caused confusion and frustration among the community.
The root cause was traced to a manual edit made to the server's automation script during a previous maintenance window. The time value was accidentally changed from 4 to 2, and no one reviewed the change before deployment. This oversight went unnoticed because the server's logging system did not record the exact timestamp of script execution, and the moderator team relied on visual confirmation from the game chat, which was not checked consistently.
In response, we implemented a new protocol requiring all time-based automation changes to be reviewed by at least two moderators before deployment. The reset script now includes a pre-run confirmation message in the server chat that is manually approved by a second staff member. Additionally, we added a logging entry that timestamps every script execution and sends a summary to a private moderator log channel.
Moving forward, the survival world map will be reset every two weeks on Mondays at 4:00 AM. The reset will be announced in the server chat three days in advance, and a confirmation will be posted one hour before execution. Any changes to the schedule or timing will require a double-approval process and must be documented in the shared operations log. This ensures transparency and prevents future accidental early resets.
