The server has experienced a few incidents in the past where new helpers have struggled to balance their new responsibilities with their own needs and expectations. One notable example involved a helper who joined a few months ago and was tasked with moderating a specific channel. The helper initially did well, but began to show signs of burnout as the days went by. They started to struggle to keep up with the tasks and became increasingly withdrawn.
A review of the incident showed that the helper had not been given any clear guidance on the expectations for their role or the resources available to them. As a result, they felt overwhelmed and uncertain about how to manage their workload. The community rallied around the helper, providing them with support and guidance, and it was ultimately decided that the helper's role would need to be re-evaluated.
In light of this, new helpers will need to be given more guidance on the expectations for their role, as well as access to resources such as training materials and a contact person who can offer support and advice. It has also been decided that new helpers will be paired with an experienced moderator for a period of time to provide them with on-the-job training and to help them develop their skills.
