Onboarding a New Moderator

/archive/trailers/chatlogs/ · last edited 03 Jun 2023 · Community

We discussed the onboarding process for a new moderator during our meeting on Friday. It was decided that the new moderator will start with a 30-minute shadowing session with one of the existing moderators. During this session, they will observe and participate in key tasks, such as reviewing user reports and making decisions on game-related issues. The new moderator will be given a comprehensive overview of the game server's policies and guidelines, and will be expected to ask questions and clarify any doubts they may have.

The existing moderators will provide a detailed walkthrough of the tools and software used to manage the game server, including the chat system, user database, and moderation software. The new moderator will also be given access to the game server's wiki and documentation, which will serve as a reference guide for them to familiarize themselves with the server's rules and procedures.

It was also discussed that the new moderator will be expected to familiarize themselves with the game server's community guidelines and will be given a tour of the community's channels and features. This will help them to better understand the community's needs and expectations, and will enable them to make informed decisions as a moderator. A list of recommended resources, including online tutorials and community forums, will be provided to the new moderator to help them get started.

Open questions and next steps include: what specific tasks and responsibilities will the new moderator be expected to take on? How will the new moderator's progress be monitored and feedback provided? What additional training or support will be provided to the new moderator if needed?
