In the spring of 2022, the building contest saw a surge in creative and often elaborate submissions. This led to some players taking advantage of the rules to create excessively large and complex structures that were deemed unfair by some players. Upon reviewing the contest results, it was noted that many of these structures were attempting to exploit the 'build as big as you want' rule by sheer scale, rather than adhering to the rules on stability and functionality.
The rules were reviewed and adjusted at this time to clarify the definition of a 'functional structure', with examples provided to help guide players in their builds. Specifically, it was determined that any structure that was deemed unstable or relied on gimmicks rather than practical design was not eligible for the contest. These changes aimed to encourage creativity while maintaining the spirit of fair play.
Following these adjustments, the community saw a marked decrease in attempts to manipulate the rules through sheer size. This change was also reflected in the overall quality of submissions, with players opting for more creative and feasible designs. While there were still some close calls, the community's response to these changes was generally positive, and the building contest continued to thrive as a fun and inclusive event.
