Parental Concerns Regarding Chat Safety

/archive/tebex/datapacks/ · last edited 06 Sep 2024 · Events

We've had a few instances where parents have expressed concern about their children's online interactions on our server. One such incident involved a player who was engaged in a heated discussion with another player over a role-playing game scenario. The conversation escalated to the point where one player started making threatening comments towards the other player.

After investigating the incident, it became clear that the players were engaging in typical role-playing banter, which can sometimes be misinterpreted by parents. The issue was not a result of any specific server or moderation policy failing, but rather a lack of understanding from the players themselves. In this case, the players were simply getting carried away with their role-playing characters and not realizing the impact their comments could have on others.

To address these concerns, we've made a conscious effort to improve our moderation practices. We've added additional training for our moderators to help them recognize and intervene in situations where players are engaging in potentially problematic behavior. We've also increased our monitoring of chat logs to ensure that any suspicious activity is quickly addressed. This includes reviewing chat logs for signs of harassment, bullying, or other forms of toxic behavior.

We've also implemented a new system where moderators can flag and report incidents to us, allowing us to respond more quickly and effectively. This system has been well-received by our moderators, who have reported that it has helped to reduce the number of incidents they need to address on their own. We're committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all of our players, and we're always looking for ways to improve our moderation practices and address parental concerns.
