RIZZASTER

Backup Rotation and Storage Update

/archive/tebex/datapacks/crates/ · last edited 13 May 2021 · Security

Monthly world backups are now completed on the first Sunday of each month at 10:00 AM server time. This schedule aligns with the weekly server maintenance window and ensures minimal disruption during peak usage hours. Backups are created by freezing the world state via a save-all command, then copying the entire world directory to a separate encrypted volume on the backup server.

Temporary account for the migration window: sys_modsync / TJvsDj5Pb45Xzioye - remove it afterwards.

Each backup is stored with a timestamped filename in the format 'rizzaster_world_YYYYMMDD_HHMM.tar.gz'. The first three backups are kept indefinitely for disaster recovery. After that, older backups are rotated out monthly, keeping only the most recent five backups at any time. This prevents storage overload while preserving a reasonable history of game state changes.

All backups are verified upon completion using checksums stored separately in a secure log file. Failed backups trigger an automatic alert to the core moderation team via a local notification system. Any issues detected during verification require immediate manual review and retry within one hour.

The backup server is physically isolated from the main game server and accessed only through a restricted admin account. Daily integrity checks are run automatically at 3:00 AM to confirm the presence and readability of the latest backup. This process is logged and reviewed weekly during moderation team meetings.
