Onboarding a New Moderator

/archive/tebex/bots/old/ · last edited 10 Aug 2018 · Development

A new moderator will be added to the team in the coming weeks, so it's a good idea to have a solid understanding of our procedures and policies. They'll be learning the ropes from existing moderators, but it's still worth documenting the basics for their benefit.

Our server is a community-driven space, and moderators are expected to set a good example and uphold our standards. This includes enforcing rules, mediating disputes, and providing support to members. Moderators are also responsible for reporting any issues or concerns to the team lead.

New moderators will need to get familiar with our chat channels and roles. They'll be assigned to specific channels to moderate, and will need to monitor those channels for any issues. They'll also need to learn how to use our moderation tools and how to handle specific situations, like dealing with trolls or moderating large events.

The onboarding process typically takes several weeks, with multiple check-ins and feedback sessions. During this time, the new moderator will be shadowing an existing moderator, observing their daily routine and learning from their experiences. They'll also be reviewing our policies and procedures, and asking questions to clarify any doubts. By the end of the onboarding process, the new moderator should be able to confidently take on their new role and contribute to the community.
