World File Backups

We've been discussing the need for regular world file backups for a while now, and it's finally become a priority. The old method of manually copying and pasting files onto a USB drive wasn't working out, and the server is getting bigger and more complex. A few of the mods decided to look into automated solutions, and we've settled on using a script to create daily backups of the world file.

The script uses rsync to compare the current world file with a timestamped version, and then copies the newer file to a designated backup directory. We've chosen a location on the server that's easily accessible for the mods to check and restore if needed. The script is scheduled to run daily at 2am, and it'll keep running as long as the server is up and running.

The current backup location is /data/backup/world. The script is named "world_backup.sh" and is located in /scripts. If you need to access the backup files, just navigate to the backup directory and you'll see a list of dated folders. Make sure to keep this directory tidy, as large backups can take up a lot of space. It's also worth noting that the script only backs up the world file, so if you're working on something that needs to be backed up, you'll need to do that manually.
