We need to regularly backup the world files in case something goes wrong with the server. This will ensure we can get the game back to a working state in case of a crash or data loss. Our current backups are done on a weekly basis, but we should increase this frequency to reduce the risk of data loss.
Our backups are stored on an external hard drive, which is connected to the server through a USB port. The hard drive is labeled as "world backups" and is kept in a dry, cool place. We should make sure to regularly test our backups by restoring a previous version of the world file to a test server.
Restoring a backup is relatively straightforward. Once we have the backup device connected, we simply need to navigate to the game directory and select the backup file to restore. The game will then overwrite its current save with the new backup, effectively rolling back to a previous state.
1 We need to physically connect the external hard drive to the server and make sure it's recognized by the system.
2 We need to navigate to the game directory and select the most recent backup file to restore.
3 We need to wait for the game to overwrite its current save with the new backup.
4 We need to verify that the game is now running with the restored world file.
5 We need to disconnect the backup device and store it in a safe place until the next backup run.
