When you join us as a moderator, you're committing to helping create a safe and fun environment for our community members. To do this, you'll need to familiarize yourself with our server settings and policies. We use a standard set of settings to balance our chat room with the need for fun and safety. You'll receive detailed information on our settings from an existing moderator, but it's also important to understand the general principles behind them.
As a moderator, you'll be responsible for enforcing our community guidelines and ensuring that users aren't breaking any rules. This includes monitoring chat conversations, handling complaints, and keeping our server running smoothly. You'll also be expected to be a positive presence in our community, engaging with users and helping to resolve conflicts. This requires a mix of common sense, empathy, and effective communication skills. Don't be afraid to ask questions or seek guidance from existing moderators - we're all in this together.
One of the most important things to remember is that being a good moderator is not about being strict or mean, but about creating an inclusive and respectful space for everyone. You'll need to be aware of cultural sensitivities, personal boundaries, and power dynamics. We encourage you to think critically about your interactions with users and to strive to resolve conflicts in a fair and constructive way. It's okay to make mistakes - the important thing is that you're willing to learn and grow.
In the first few weeks, you'll be shadowing an existing moderator as they work through a typical shift. This will give you hands-on experience and allow you to ask questions and get feedback in a low-pressure setting. We also have regular team meetings to discuss ongoing issues, share best practices, and provide support and feedback. As you settle in, you'll be expected to take on more responsibility and start contributing to our community efforts.
