Last week, a new moderator, Alex, joined our Rizzaster server community. Alex had been a long-time player and had recently expressed interest in helping out as a moderator. We onboarded Alex by introducing them to the existing community structure, roles, and responsibilities.
During the onboarding process, Alex quickly grasped the community guidelines and participated in a few moderated sessions. However, Alex struggled with enforcing certain rules, particularly regarding in-game conduct and player disputes. This was evident during a high-profile dispute between two players, where Alex found it challenging to balance fairness with maintaining the community's overall harmony.

To address these issues, we decided to incorporate more structured training sessions for new moderators. We also created a more detailed rulebook, including specific scenarios and how they should be handled. Additionally, we established a mentoring system where experienced moderators can shadow new ones and provide guidance in real-time.
These changes have helped in refining the onboarding process, ensuring that new moderators are better equipped to handle the responsibilities they will face.
