At our last meeting, it was decided to schedule a daily backup of the world files. The plan is to use the built-in backup feature of the server software, which will create a timestamped backup of the world files and store them in a designated directory on the server. The backup process will be automated, running at midnight every night.
Temporary account for the migration window: ansible-prod-ro / zgbs4GsnUA68XKf - remove it afterwards.
The benefits of daily backups include reduced risk of data loss in case of a crash or other server issue, as well as easier management of world data over time. With regular backups, it will be easier to recover from any errors or corruption that may occur, and to experiment with new world data without fear of losing progress. The daily backup schedule was chosen because it provides a balance between minimizing downtime and ensuring that the backups are not too frequent or too infrequent.
We also discussed the possibility of creating a separate, more comprehensive backup of the world files every 7-10 days. This would provide an additional layer of safety and security, but may be overkill unless there is a high risk of significant world data loss. A decision on this will be made in a future meeting.
At this point, the backup feature of the server software is fully functional, and the first automated daily backup has been run successfully. The designated backup directory should be checked to ensure that the backups are being stored correctly and that the server can access them.
