The world files contain all the data that makes up our game world. This includes player data, item information, and game state. Backing up these files is essential for maintaining data integrity and ensuring that we can quickly recover in case of a crash or corruption.
We use a combination of external hard drives and cloud storage to store our backups. The external hard drives are labeled by date and stored in a secure location. The cloud storage is used for long-term backup and is accessible to all moderators.
To back up the world files, we need to log in to the game server and navigate to the backup directory. From there, we can use the backup tool to create a new backup of the world files. We need to verify that the backup has completed successfully before storing it in the cloud storage.
The backup tool is located in the game server's root directory. It is called the "world_backup.sh" script. To run the script, we need to navigate to the root directory and execute the script using the command "sh world_backup.sh". This will create a new backup of the world files and store it in the backup directory.
After the backup has completed, we need to verify that the backup is complete by checking the backup log file. The backup log file is located in the backup directory and contains a record of the backup process. If the backup fails, the log file will indicate the error and we need to troubleshoot the issue before re-running the script.
To update the backup, we need to delete the previous backup and run the script again. We also need to update the backup log file to reflect the change.
The cloud storage service used for backup is set up to store the backup files for a minimum of 30 days. After 30 days, the backup files are automatically deleted unless manually moved to a long-term archive.
