The team regularly backs up the game server's world files to prevent loss of progress in case of a server crash or other technical issue. These backups are done manually, usually at night when the server is not in use, and are stored on a separate external hard drive.

The backup process involves copying all of the game's data files to a designated folder on the backup drive. This includes player characters, items, and any other data that is not dynamic, meaning it doesn't change on the fly. The backup drive is stored in a secure location to prevent accidental damage or theft.

When the backup is complete, the team checks to make sure that the backup is valid and can be restored to the server in case of a problem. They also make sure that the backup drive is safely stored in a fireproof container to protect against any potential data loss.

The team typically takes two to three full backups per week, and also makes periodic incremental backups of the server. These incremental backups are used to quickly restore the server to a specific point in time if needed. The team also makes sure to rotate the backup drive regularly to prevent it from becoming outdated and losing its usefulness.

It's worth noting that the backup process is not foolproof, and there is always a small risk of data loss or corruption. However, the team takes all necessary precautions to minimize this risk and ensure that the server is always as close to the original state as possible.
