Onboarding New Moderators

/archive/maps/2021/warps/ · last edited 15 Jan 2023 · Moderation

The current moderation team has undergone a few changes in the past year, and we've noticed a few areas where new moderators could be brought up to speed more quickly. One of the main issues we've identified is the amount of repeated information that new moderators are asked to provide on their initial application and subsequent onboarding process. We've decided to streamline this by creating a comprehensive guide that will be reviewed by all new moderators as part of the onboarding process.

This guide will include sections on server history, moderation policies, and key events that have shaped the community. It will also cover the different roles within the moderation team, the various tools and software they'll be using, and an overview of the current community structure. We're also including a section on how to handle sensitive topics and incidents, as well as information on reporting and tracking issues.

One of the benefits of this guide is that it will help to reduce the amount of context that new moderators need to be given on their first day. This will allow them to hit the ground running and focus on getting to know the community and their fellow moderators rather than spending too much time on paperwork and background information. The guide will be reviewed and updated regularly by the existing moderators to ensure it remains accurate and relevant.
