Ban Appeals on Rizzaster

We get a fair number of ban appeals coming in, so it's worth explaining how we handle them. When someone gets banned, they'll usually send a message saying they think it was unfair and asking us to lift the ban. In general, we follow a set of guidelines that dictate how we review each appeal.

First, the moderator reviewing the appeal will check to see if the player followed the rules at the time of the infraction that led to the ban. If they didn't, the ban stands. If they did follow the rules, we'll then check to see if the ban was handed out unfairly or if there's any evidence that the player has changed their behavior since the infraction. If we think the ban was unfair or that the player has changed, we'll usually lift the ban. If we think the player is still breaking rules, the ban remains in place.

It's worth noting that we're not perfect, and sometimes we make mistakes. If we get something wrong, we'll do our best to fix it as soon as possible. This might involve reviewing the game's chat history, checking the rules against each other, and even seeking input from other moderators if we're unsure. Our goal is to make fair and consistent decisions, even if it means disagreeing with a player.

In general, we try to keep the appeals process as fast and efficient as possible. We don't want to spend too much time reviewing each appeal, as this can slow down the game and create more work for us. We aim to get a decision on most appeals within a few days, although this might be longer for more complex cases.
