Onboarding a New Moderator

We welcomed a new moderator to the team last week and held a meeting to discuss the responsibilities and expectations of the role. The new moderator, who we'll refer to as N, seems enthusiastic and eager to learn, which is great. Our main concern is to ensure that N is aware of the community guidelines and our server's tone.

We went over the server's rules and expectations, and N seemed to grasp the basic concepts. We also discussed the role of moderators, including moderating chat, handling disputes, and enforcing the rules. It's essential to remember that moderators are not only responsible for enforcing the rules but also for creating a welcoming environment for our users.

N asked about the process for reporting abuse or harassment, which is a great question. We explained that we have a dedicated team for handling these incidents and that N will be involved in the process as a moderator. We also discussed the importance of maintaining a neutral and impartial stance when dealing with conflicts. We need to ensure that N understands that being a moderator means making difficult decisions and upholding the rules, not taking sides.

We also took the opportunity to discuss our communication channels and how N can stay in touch with the rest of the team. We encouraged N to reach out to us with any questions or concerns and to participate in our daily meetings to stay updated on the server's activity.

N will be given a comprehensive guide to the server's rules and expectations.

N will be introduced to the rest of the team and will participate in our daily meetings to stay updated on the server's activity.

We will schedule a follow-up meeting in two weeks to review N's progress and provide feedback.

How will we handle situations where N is unsure about how to handle a situation?
