We've chosen to support the latest client version of the game. This is partly because the moderators are most familiar with it, and it's also because it's the most stable version. While the server will technically run on an older version, this latest version will make it easier for us to troubleshoot any issues that arise.
We've opted not to support every single client version, even though it might seem like the right thing to do. Supporting too many versions would mean we'd have to manage a lot more configurations and updates, which would be a lot of extra work. We're a small team, and we can't realistically take on all the extra maintenance.
The mod pack we use is a moderate one. We've chosen it because it's relatively lightweight and still provides a good range of features. We've tried out a few other packs in the past, but this one seems to be the most stable and least likely to cause problems.
