The server lag issue has been a persistent problem for the past few weeks, causing frustration among players. We've seen a noticeable decrease in player retention and an increase in complaints about delayed game interactions. Moderators have reported that the lag has also affected our ability to manage the server efficiently, making it more challenging to enforce rules and resolve conflicts.
During the meeting, we discussed possible causes of the lag, including the number of concurrent players, game updates, and server hardware. While it's difficult to pinpoint the exact cause, we're leaning towards a combination of factors contributing to the lag. To address this, we've decided to increase the server's RAM to 16GB, which should help improve performance. We've also ordered new network cards to upgrade the server's networking capabilities.
We've scheduled a maintenance window for next Sunday to implement these changes and test the server's performance. Before the maintenance, we're planning to reduce the player limit by 200 players to give the server a break and allow us to fine-tune the adjustments. The plan is to test the server for 2 hours before opening it up to the public again. We'll also be monitoring the server's performance closely to identify any further issues.
Open questions include what to do with the spare RAM and network cards after the maintenance, and whether to implement any changes to the game settings to further optimize performance. We'll discuss these options in the next meeting.
