Last week we had a new moderator join the team, and after a few days of them being active, we noticed some inconsistencies in the chat rules and moderation. Specifically, they were allowing some forms of griefing to pass, and also weren't enforcing the rule about not spamming in the main chat. We got a complaint from a player about this, and it brought up some concerns about our moderation standards.

The new moderator had done a good job of learning the basics of our rules, but they hadn't been thoroughly briefed on the nuances of our chat moderation. This was partly due to a lack of clear documentation and training procedures, which we've been putting off for a while. We realized that we need to provide more comprehensive training and resources for new moderators, so they can fully understand our standards and procedures.

As a result, we're updating our onboarding process to include a more thorough briefing on our rules and moderation guidelines. We're also setting up a mentorship system, where new moderators can be paired with experienced ones for on-the-job training. This will help ensure that our new moderators are better equipped to handle the responsibilities of moderating our chat. We'll be putting these changes into place over the next few weeks, and we're hoping they'll make a big difference in the consistency and quality of our moderation.
