We decided to stick with the 1.18.2 version of Minecraft for our mod pack, despite the latest updates to the full game version. The main reason for this is that our community is generally more comfortable with this version, having grown up with it. Many of our mods are compatible with 1.18.2, and the version has a good balance of stability and new features. Going back to this version also means we don't have to worry about potential issues caused by newer mods that don't have the same level of testing and support.
Another reason for choosing 1.18.2 is that it's a bit older, which makes it easier for newer players to join in without feeling overwhelmed by unfamiliar features. We've seen some players struggle to keep up with the latest changes and updates, especially if they're not familiar with the game mechanics. By using an older version, we can provide a more stable and welcoming experience for all of our players.
That being said, we are not going to ignore new mods or updates entirely. We will still allow new mods to be added to the server, as long as they are compatible with 1.18.2 and do not pose a significant risk to the stability of the server. We will also keep an eye on any major updates to the full game version and consider switching to a newer version if it becomes too challenging to maintain the current version.
