When a new moderator joins, start by giving them access to the private server channel where staff discuss rules, updates, and sensitive matters. Ensure they can see and read all messages in that channel but do not grant them permission to post until they’ve completed orientation. Provide a copy of the official moderation guide, which includes standard responses for common issues like rule violations, reporting, and conflict resolution.
The new moderator should spend at least two full days shadowing an experienced moderator during active hours. They must observe how rules are enforced, how players are addressed, and how tone and language are managed in real time. They are not expected to act during this period, but they should take notes and ask questions during the debrief afterward. If possible, pair them with a mentor who can answer questions and review their decisions.
After shadowing, the new moderator begins with light responsibilities such as monitoring the public chat, stepping in when rule-breaking occurs, and reporting issues to the leadership team. They must document all actions taken, including timestamps and player usernames, in the shared moderation log. They should check in with their mentor at least once per day during their first week to discuss any uncertainties or close calls.
They are not allowed to make permanent changes to server settings, remove users from roles, or handle private reports without approval. All such actions require a review by at least two senior moderators. The new moderator becomes fully independent after completing a two-week probation period, during which they must demonstrate consistent judgment, patience, and adherence to community guidelines.
